IN THE MERCED COMMUNITY| THE CHURCH AROUND THE WORLD

 

The church of Christ strives to be a non-denominational group of Christians who desire to live and to love as Jesus did. Our goal is to be New Testament Christians, following the Bible alone as our guide in all religious maters. Using the bible's example of the New Testament church's worship and teachings, we strive to restore that exact same church in the twenty-first century. We are not intending to establish another denomination, but rather a return to the original church. We have no central organization, as each congregation of the churches of Christ are independent of one another. Scriptures reveal that each congregation should be self-governing under the oversight of the elders (1 Peter 5:1-3).


These scriptures can give biblical foundations for the church of Christ.

  • Christ built it (Matt. 16:18)
  • Christ is the head (Eph. 5:23)
  • It is the house of God (1 Tim. 3:15)
  • It is the body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23)
  • Christ bought it with His blood (Acts 20:28)
  • The Lord loved it and gave himself for it (Eph. 5:25)
  • It must be subject to Christ (Eph. 5:24)
  • The Bible is it's only guide (Rom. 1:16, I Thess. 2:13)
  • Wears a Biblical name (Rom 16:16)
  • One is baptized into it (1 Cor. 12:13)
  • Its purity must be maintained (Eph. 5:27)
  • It is one (Eph. 4:4, 1 Cor. 12:20)
  • Established at the right time (Joel 2:28-32, Acts 2)
  • Established at the right place (Is. 2:2-3, Acts 2)
  • Established on the right foundation (Eph. 2:20)
  • It's members are enrolled in Heaven (Heb. 12:23)
  • Membership is obtained by obedience to God's commands, including baptism (Acts 2:41-47, I Cor. 12:13)
  • The saved are in it (Eph. 5:23, Acts 2:47)
